Special Excursions
Sunset, Lighthouses and Seals
Monday, Wednesday and Friday – July (6:45 – 8:15) and August (6:30 – 8:00)
*Click Here to Book Sunset, Lighthouses and Seals*
In contrast to our other excursions, the sunset cruise is more about relaxation than participation. We don’t pull a trap on this trip but do have lobsters onboard to demonstrate and discuss the iconic Maine lobster fishery, answer questions and take some memorable photos. This journey is a scenic cruise through Casco Bay passing famous lighthouses, historic forts and rocky islands. Along the route we’ll make a close pass by Portland Breakwater “Bug” Light, Spring Point Ledge Light and the Portland Head Light. On our return we’ll pass Civil war forts Gorges and Scammel on route to Seal Rock, where there’s a great chance of spotting the local “Sea Dogs” hauled out for the evening. Please remember that the sunset over Portland’s skyline can be stunning but also a good idea to bring an extra layer.
We don’t provide any drinks or snacks onboard, but please feel free to bring your favorite food or beverages with you.
Also, keep an eye on the calendar for “local flavor” special guests like Orange Bike Brewing and Little Busters Oysters!
Adults – $50.
Traps n Apps
Saturdays – June, July & August 3:40 -5:10
*Click here to book Traps n Apps*
Traps n Apps is a unique opportunity to savor Maine’s delicious seafood fresh from the source. After hauling a lobster trap to learn about Maine’s iconic crustacean, we’ll visit a sea farm to harvest fresh oysters and learn about local aquaculture. Each passenger receives a knife, gloves and instruction to shuck and enjoy at least four farm fresh oysters as we cruise Casco Bay passing Lighthouses, historic Forts and Seal Rock. Two additional local aquaculture products (kelp salad and smoked mussels) will be sampled and discussed before a lobster roll finale. Please bring your own beverages to wash it all down, we do not provide any drinks.
Adults – $99.
Fort Gorges Excursion
*2025 Dates* Sunday June, 22nd (10:45-12:15) and Sunday July, 20th (10:15-11:45)
*Click here to book the Fort Gorges Excursion*
Fort Gorges is a stunning, granite-walled Civil War battery built between 1858 and 1865. Situated in the center of Portland Harbor, the fort is easily seen but rarely visited due to her rocky shoals awash at low tide. At high tide her stone pier can be accessed but only for a limited time, causing our widely varied departure times for this excursion.
Fort Gorges, now owned by the City of Portland, is designated as a public park and is open for all to enjoy, but only smaller craft that can be carried ashore can make a landing during all tides. Despite the required effort, every summer hundreds of adults and children stop to explore and experience this unique piece of history.
Visitors enter the fort at their own risk and will be required to sign a release of liability before embarking on the excursion. There are hazards in and around the fort including uneven footing and access to precipitous drops, however, the fort can be safely visited using minimal common sense. The transit to Fort Gorges is 15 minutes each way allowing 60 minutes ashore.
Adults $35. – Children (2-12) $25.
